Kidzpointe July 13

This week I will be leaving town Sunday morning, therefore I will not be there.  Ms. Van, Ms. Courtney, Ms. Pam and Ms. Natalie will be teaching this Sunday.  I am not sure about activities planned but the same virtue that we started last week will continue.  For those of you who are new – we work on the same memory verse and virtue all month.  Most all of the kids know the virtue, understand the meaning and how to apply it by the end of the month as well as the memory verse.  The only thing that really changes during a month is how to apply it (which is the bottom line), and the bible story changes or continues off the original from the first of the month.  The following is for this week.

Hold Your Tongue

Virtue: – Self Control

Memory Verse:  “A man who can’t control himself is like a city whose walls are broken down.”Proverbs 25:28, NIrV
Bible Story: – Hold Your Tongue (Taming the tongue) •†James 3:1-12

Bottom Line: – Just a few words can make a big difference.

Name three

“easy” jobs. Chocolate taste tester? Relaxation coach for a walrus? Director of ticket sales for a Hannah Montana concert? What about three “hard” jobs? Maybe being paired with Tiger Woods for the final 18 … teaching ninth-grade algebra … taming a lion? Guess what the Bible says? Controlling our tongues is harder than any of those. In fact, James 3:6 (NIV) refers to the tongue as “a world of evil” and “set on fire by hell.” Yikes! Does that sound like a tongue you know? When it comes to words, (1) self-control involves saying what we SHOULD instead of what we WANT. (2) It’s best demonstrated by a perfectly loving and perfectly controlled God whose words are “a lamp unto our feet” instead of the tongue lashing we deserve! (3) When we actively practice control of our tongues (think: boss on an unjustified tirade, a referee’s “YOU’VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!” call that just cost your team the game, rush-hour traffic, arguing children …) we’re GONNA be noticed! (4) And when others notice, then what a difference just a few words can make when you get to use them to introduce someone to your great and faithful God!
It’s our second week of looking at self-control, and this week is all about the words we use. (1) (1) Self-control is choosing to do what you should do, not what you want to do. (2). God exhibits self-control whenever He gives us another chance, chooses to love us when we’re undeserving, or allows us to disobey and make mistakes. (3) God wants us to have self-control too. (4) One way you can show self-control is by keeping a close rein on the words you say—using your head when it comes to your tongue. We say thousands of words every day, and some of those are hurtful or said in anger. Practicing self-control when it comes to your words is hard, but oh, so important.

Congrats to Dylan Welch, Hannah Schmmock, and Jacob Westbrook for remembering the memory verse after just hearing it 3 times.

I WILL DEFINATELY MISS ALL OF THE KIDS THIS WEEK BUT I WILL BE LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT WEEK!
